1. Worried about suboptimal vision results.

Advanced wavefront guided Intralase technology unleashes the potential for you to attain visual quality that actually exceeds that of using glasses or contact lenses. It’s the modern parallel to “bionic” vision. However, you don’t need to be Steve Austin the Six Million Dollar man or Lt. Geordi La Forge to experience the type of great vision that even a cyborg would appreciate. Wavefront guided Intralasik delivers “bionic” vision today.

Why are wavefront treatments so much superior to traditional LASIK? Optical engineers have spent countless hours debating the right way to optimize the human visual system. The product of that debate is wavefront guided custom treatments. Older non-wavefront laser vision procedures are a “one size fits all” and typically create a flattening effect on the central cornea that causes the optical system to take on a shape that optical engineers describe as “oblate”. Unfortunately, an “oblate” visual system is not optimal for creating crisp detailed vision. As a consequence of this new oblate profile, the visual distortions induced by non-wavefront treatments can frequently diminish the quality of vision or introduce unwanted and undesirable effects such as glare and halos.

However, with wavefront guidance, the profile of the cornea is maintained as an aspheric shape that is steeper centrally than peripherally. This type of “prolate” shape is optimal for high definition clarity because it reduces unwanted optical distortions such as spherical aberration. The result is sharper vision and superior night vision without unwelcome optical side effects.

Ever heard the expression “See like an eagle”? Eagles have extraordinarily crisp vision so they can identify their prey from hundreds of feet away. A big part of how they accomplish that feat is the “prolate” shape of their corneas. In contrast, frogs have relatively poor visual clarity as a result of their “oblate” corneal shape. Sharp distance vision isn’t a priority for the frog.

When it comes to vision, and perhaps a few other attributes as well, most people would rather be like an eagle than a frog. That’s why wavefront guided treatments seek to emulate eagle vision. Compared to older traditional techniques, today’s wavefront guided treatments are kind of like comparing high definition television to standard television broadcasts. The difference can be astounding.
